Milgram studied obedience by setting up an experiment at Yale University campus.

Having put out an advertisement for volunteers- Milgram got a number of people for his study.

In the study- the participant would be introduced to a kind older man who then went into another room. They were then met by the tester (an authority figure) and sat in a room with a dial and some questions.

In the room in front of them, unseen, was the man they\'d previously met. The participant had to ask him a number of questions that If he got wrong- the participant would have to turn the machine and give the man an unseen electric shock. The participant would eventually have to shock this man a number of times in increasing voltage as encouraged by the authority figure- hearing the increasing distress from the other room.

Milgram wanted to show that if made to obey an authority figure- any person can be pushed to do evil.
