Vision by Mind Map: Vision

1. Optic Nerve- the nerve that carries neural impulses from the eye to the brain

1.1. Blind Spot- the point where the optic nerve leaves the eye, making a blind spot becasue no receptor cells are located there

2. Eye structure

2.1. Cornea- the transparent front part of the eye that covers the iris, pupil and the rest of the eye.

2.1.1. Pupil- the adjustable opening in the center of the eye through which light light enters

2.1.1.1. lens- the transparent structure behind the pupil that changes shape to help FOCOUS images on the retina

2.1.1.1.1. Retina- light sebsutuve inner surface of the eye, containing rods and cones

2.1.2. Iris- a ring of muscle tissue that forms the colored portion of the eye around the pupil and controls the size of the pupil opening

3. theory

3.1. Trichromatic theory- there are three receptors in the retina that are responsible for the perception of color. One receptor is sensitive to the color green, another to the color blue and a third to the color red. These three colors can then be combined to form any visible color in the spectrum. Everything you see is a blend of these three colors.

3.2. Opponent Process Theory of Color Vision- the opposing retinal processes enable color vision. red- green, yellow- blue, white to black

4. Brain Structure

4.1. Occipital lobe-important to being able to correctly understand what your eyes are seeing. These lobes have to be very fast to process the rapid information that our eyes are sending. damage to this area would result in loss of visual capability, an inability to identify colors, and hallucinations.
