My Technology Standards For Education

1. ISTE Standards For Students

1.1. Empowered Learner: Students should take an active role in utilizing the many different forms of technology to aide them in their learning.

1.2. Digital Citizen: Students should understand the importance of safety and becoming a responsible digital citizen when using technology.

1.3. Knowledge Constructor: Students should be able to critically assess research to ensure its validity and quality.

1.4. Global Collaborator: Students will collaborate either locally or globally to discover and hear from many different perspectives when discussing an issue.

1.5. Creative Communicator: Students will choose the appropriate platform or tool to meet the desired objective.

2. Learning and Technology Policy Framework

2.1. Policy 1: Students develop digital citizenship and technological skills to collaborate and think critically.

2.2. Policy 2: Teachers stay up to date with the evolution of technology and find ways to integrate it into the classroom.

2.3. Policy 3: Teachers are well prepared and engage in professional development in the support of teaching and learning.

2.4. Policy 4: Government and school authorities have policy and procedures for school use of technology to ensure safety for all.

2.5. Policy 5: All students, teachers, and administrators have access to digital technology and have the resources needed to have technology in the classroom.

3. Information and Communication Technology

3.1. Students will critically access information from their chosen source and piece of technology.

3.2. Students will use technology to enhance collaboration. The use of email and file sharing is expected.

3.3. Students will only download and visit websites that comply with the policy set out by the school.

3.4. Students will understand the use of technology outside of school and in society.

3.5. Students will use various audio and visual applications as well as develop the skills to determine which technology would work for each audience or task.

4. ISTE Standards For Teachers

4.1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity: Use their skills to facilitate creative thinking and collaboration through the use of technology.

4.2. Design and Develop Digital Age Learning Experiences and Assessments: Teachers should incorporate contemporary technology tools in lessons.

4.3. Model Digital Age Work and Learning: Teachers should be fluent in technology. Use it to connect with parents and be able to teach students how to use it effectively.

4.4. Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility: Teachers must explain to students how to appropriately use technology in ways that are safe and efficient.

4.5. Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership: Teachers should constantly professionally develop their technological skills in order to keep up with the ever changing world.
