1. He gave Susannah the “clock test,” which can identify areas of the brain that weren't functioning. Susannah drawed a clock, she listed all the numbers on the right side, and put the 12 where the six should have been.
2. Dr. Najjar found that Susannah’s inflamed brain was caused by an autoimmune reaction and her body was attacking the brain. Susannah was given a brain biopsy, which confirmed her encephalitis.
3. He treated her aggressively with steroids, antibodies, and plasma exchange.
