1.1. Buddhism was founded in the late 6th century B.C.E. by Siddhartha Gautama.

1.1.1. The Buddha was born in a place called Lumbini near the Himalayan foothills, and started teaching around Benares.

2. sacred texts

2.1. The Tripitaka, Mahayana Sutras,and the Tibetan book of the dead are all three major Buddhist texts.

2.1.1. The Buddha did not write anything down. The earliest known scriptures were recorded hundreds of years after his death.

3. Core Beliefs

3.1. One fundamental is reincarnation.

3.2. The three trainings: Sila-virtue, Samadhi-meditation, Prajna-enlightenment

3.3. The Four Noble Truths: Dukka-Suffering exists, Samudaya-Suffering has a cause, Nirodha-There will be an end to suffering, Magga-You must follow a path to end suffering.

3.4. The five precepts are rules they must live by.

6. Where did it spread?

6.1. It spread into parts of Asia including Ceylon, Burma, Nepal, Tibet, central Asia, China, and Japan.

6.1.1. 1. Buddhism ideals and values were accepted by all walks of life from commoners and scholars 2. Like wise the religion welcomed everyone 3. It was started in India, which was considered divine 4. Main focus was mainly ethical and not all about rituals or ceremony

7.1. Changed the Indian societies beliefs from Brahmanism into Buddhism that emphasises love, equality and non-violence.
