1. Discussion of the passage should follow reading

2. Repeated reading increases: reading speed, accuracy, expression, and comprehension.

3. Repeated reading text should be at a level that the student has 90-100% word recognition.

4. Short but frequent sessions work best

5. Passages should be about 50-200 words in length

6. Reread short meaningful passages 3-5 times to increase fluency level

6.1. Repeat with a new passage once desired fluency has been reached.

7. Provide more guidance when needed (decode text) and model expressive reading

8. Be sure to set goals and record progress with the students
