1. The Origins of Rome

1.1. The first Roman citizens apeared between 1000 and 500 B.C.

1.1.1. there was a fight for the land betwwen the Latians, Greeks, and Etruscans.

1.2. Rome's Geography consisted of hills of the Tiber River on the near center of the Italian peninsula

1.2.1. The legend was that the city of Rome was built by the Two sons of Mars and a Latian princess, Romulus and Remus.

2. Rome Spreads its Power

2.1. Rome Conquers Italy

2.1.1. By 265 B.C. the Romans had defeted the Etruscains and the Greek city states to the South

2.1.2. The were to the allies to the nations that they conquered

2.2. Rome's Commercial Network

2.2.1. Rome's location gave easy accsess to the Mediterrainian Sea

2.2.2. There was a rise in power to some colonies on the African coast

2.3. The war with Carthage

2.3.1. The Punic wars between Rome and Carhage was between 264 B.C. to 146 B.C.

2.3.2. Hanniable attempted to cappture Rome with a massive army, they moved through Spain, France and the Alpes.

2.3.3. The battle at Cannae all though Rome was delt great losses they prevented the capture of Rome.

2.4. Rome Triumps

2.4.1. in 202 B.C. the Romans fiinally defeated Hannibal at Zama near Carthage

2.4.2. By 70 B.C. the empire streched from Spain to Anatolia

3. The Early Republic

3.1. Patricans and Plebeians

3.1.1. These were the two major groups struggling for power in early Rome

3.2. Twelve Tables

3.2.1. The Plebeians got a major win with the creation of a written law called the twelve tables

3.3. Goverment Under the Republic

3.3.1. The Romans took the ideas of a Monochary, Democracy, and Aristocraty

3.3.2. In times of crisis a dictator was appointeed by the republic that had complete control of the law making and military

3.4. The Roman Army

3.4.1. All citizens who owned land had to serve in the army

3.4.2. there were Legions that consisted of 5,000 foot soilders and calvary
