1. character vs self: 2 examples for TKAM and 1 for American history... "then dropped my fists and walked away, 'Scout's a cow-ward' ringing in my ear." (cha. 9) This is an example of internal conflict because the dialogue before this quote is showing that she is considering fighting or leaving. "the prospect of spending nine months refraining from reading and writing made me think of running away." (cha. 3) this is an example of character vs self because Scout is having a lot of internal argument about running away or staying in Maycomb. "I hated my skinny chested body, and I envied those black girls that could jump rope so fast their legs became a blur. They always seemed to stay warm while I froze." This quote shows that Elaina has internal conflict on her appearance and the ability of her peers.
2. Character vs Nature: 1 example each..."he seemed dedicated to one course of action and motivated by an invisible force." (p. 95) this shows character vs nature because it is the finch's vs the mad dog which is an example of nature. THERE IS NO EXAMPLE THAT I CAN FIND FOR CHARACTER VS NATURE!!!
3. Character vs Character: 2 examples TKAM and 1 for American history..."It's time you started being a girl, and start acting right. I burst into tear and fled to tears and fled to calpurnia" (p.125) This shows that Jem is changing and because of that it leads to conflict between Jem and Scout. "He was running, running towards us with no child's steps. Run, Scout! Run! Run!" (p. 275) this is the part of the book where Bob Ewell attacks them and this is definetly character vs character. "Hey, skinny bones, pump it, girl. Ain't you got no energy today?" This is an example of character vs. character in American history because they girls are all making fun of the narrator.
4. Character vs society: 1 example each..."This is a truth that applies to the human race an no particular race of men." (p.215) This is character vs. society because It is Atticus going against what everyone else believes and it is Atticus vs the society in this case. "I have seen you staring down at that boy's house. You are heading for humiliation and pain." later it says "What do you want?...but her tone was not friendly." This shows that society wants her and Eugene to stay apart. Her mom and Eugene's mom want them apart. It was just way of life like that. So it is character (Elaina and Eugene) vs Society.
