My Pathway: Medical Professional (Dermatologist/ Chemical Formulation) 저자: Mind Map: My Pathway: Medical Professional (Dermatologist/ Chemical Formulation)

1. Skills/ Interests

1.1. Chemistry

1.1.1. Creating chemical formulas and working with skin go hand in hand. By being able to create formulas that are skin friendly and appealing to consumers (ex. vegan makeup) is something that it appealing to me.

1.2. Reading

1.3. Skin Care

1.3.1. Dermatology is a passion that I really enjoy analysing and looking at in my own free time. I find conditions such as: psoriasis, keloids, dermatitis and lipomas fascinating to look at. To be able to work with these for my job would be very satisfying.

2. Costs

2.1. Long shift hours

2.2. School Debt

2.2.1. Many medical students are burdened with university/ college debt far past when they were in school. Having an extra factor of stress is not something that is appealing to me as a person who tends to hyperfixate (and later - stress) on solving problems.

2.3. A lot of studying

2.3.1. Long, excruciating hours of studying don't necessarily appeal to me at this time. However, I am currently in the process of learning better habits and staying more focused.

3. Pros

3.1. Prestige

3.1.1. As a person with chinese heritage, having a job with perceived "prestige" is something that is important to me. I would like my family to be as approving, supportive and happy with my job as I am.

3.2. Helping People

3.2.1. I really want to be able to have the privilege to help people in their times of need. By being a medical professional, I'm able to fulfill that dream of mine and witness the very best of humanity.

4. Goals

4.1. Improve interpersonal skills/ public speaking

4.1.1. I want to be able to properly communicate with people rather than slaving away at a desk and staring at stacks of paper the whole day.

4.1.2. Having an emotional bond with a person and being able to help them in a time of need is very rewarding.

4.2. Time management

4.2.1. At this point in my life, I think that pursuing a medical education would be the most beneficial for my marks is to teach myself good habits (ex. good time management, efficient working periods). I will be more motivated to work harder and get my marks up.

4.3. Being able to support my family

4.3.1. If I do not have a job in which I can afford to pay for certain medications for my family, it would be very costly and force me to choose between certain privileges that I cannot afford to lose for my family.

5. Values

5.1. High Prestige/ Familial Values

5.1.1. I would like a career in which my family is as happy with it as I am (as opposed to disappointed or used as a “bad example”). We all have a say in what we choose to be and I hope that they would support their future just as I have theirs.

5.2. Dynamic/ Ever Changing Environment

5.2.1. I am the type of person who enjoys working in different situations, I am repulsed by the idea of having a strict schedule. I enjoy a constant challenge and being able to move on rather than being stuck on one single problem for months at a time.

5.3. Supportable Salary

5.3.1. Being able to support yourself and put money into a retirement fund or investments in order to be able to afford luxuries or expensive ventures (ex. travels)

5.3.2. Being able to support myself and my family is important. Giving my children the benefits that I was unable to have can help them realize their passions/ career aspirations early on. This can help them to pursue their own interests and achieve their own desired job.
