Antihypertensives: ANG II receptor blockers (ARBs)

1. telmisartan

3. END IN -ARTAN

4. MOA: block ANG II receptor (AT) so action of ANG II is inhibited

4.1. no effects on bradykinin metabolism (bc they don't effect ACE)

5. indications: HTN; all pts post MI and HF; diabetic and non-diabetic proteinuria; reduce progression to clinical nephropathy

6. First line HTN drugs

7. losartan

8. valsartan

9. candesartan

10. irebesartan

11. AE: less cough; less angioedema; good for pts who cannot tolerate ACEI; may reduce progression fo Type 2 diabetic neuropathy; same pregnancy contraindication
