1. Power

1.1. The power the upper class has on the poor class causes humor to release some of the tension.

2. Work

2.1. Because the society being studied is part of the working class, humor is used to counter the hard jobs and working conditions seen by this society.

2.1.1. Humor in the workplace allows a way for people to maintain their hope in rather hopeless jobs.

3. Illness

3.1. Humor helps lifts spirits when illness due to lack of medical attention makes disease prevalent.

3.1.1. In many of the lower class societies, illness is prevalent . WIth lack of healthcare and other means of fighting disease, humor is one way the lower class raises spirits and in doing so helps bring hope to the sick.

4. Humor as a Weapon

4.1. Humor is seen as a weapon by the poor against the rich.

4.2. Humor in daily lives help the oppression by the upper class seem less real.
