1.3. The conduction process in metals is through the vibration of particles and free electron distribution while the process in non-metals is only through vibration of particles.

2.1. The transfer of thermal energy by means of convection currents in a fluid ( liquid or gas) due to a difference in density.
2.2. Needs a medium. Does not occur in solids because it involves bulk movement of the fluid.

3. Radiation
3.1. The transfer of thermal energy in the form of electromagnetic waves such as infrared radiation without the aid of a medium
3.2. All objects and surfaces emit infrared radiation. The emission causes temp of object to fall. They also absorb infrared radiation causing temp to rise.
3.3. The factors that affect rate of emission and absorption of infrared radiation are 1) Colour and texture of the surface 2) Surface temperature.
4. Thermal energy always flows from a region of higher temperature to a region of lower temperature. Net flow of thermal energy only occurs when there's a difference in temperature.
