Boxer's win rate based on height
저자: Hashem widyan
1. Rationale
1.1. The reason i will conduct more research in this particular topic is so i can identify whether height is an advantage in a boxing match and the impact it has on a win rate of a boxer.
2. Objective
2.1. to identify the correlation of a boxer’s win rate based on height and investigate thoroughly if height can affect the probability of a boxer winning a fight by looking at the top 20-30 fighters from 4 weight classes.
3. Research aim
3.1. The purpose of this study is to find out whether height plays a role in a boxing match and if it is considered a major advantage while looking at results from various weight classes.
4. Questions
4.1. Is height a major advantage in boxing? What is the average win rate of a boxer when fighting a taller opponent? What is the probability of a boxer winning a bout if they are taller than their opponent?
5. Hypothesis
5.1. I predict that height does play a role in boxing and that the height of the boxer increases when looking at the top ranked boxers in each weight class. However, i do believe that height can be a disadvantage when not knowing how to take advantage of it or dealing with a skilled opponent.
6. Personal engagement
6.1. I am interested in this as I am a very big fan of boxing and the fundamentals behind the sport and compete in the sport myself, which motivates me in carrying out this investigation. I have faced taller opponents before and found it difficult to compete against some of them which is what interests me to carry out this investigation to find out the effectiveness of height in professional boxing.
7. Variables
7.1. Record: Boxer’s win and loss record Win rate: The probability of a boxer winning a bout Loss rate: The probability of a boxer losing a bout Boxing fundamentals: Stance, power, speed, agility.
8. Research
8.1. I will be looking at 4 different weight classes in professional boxing and gathering 20-30 different fighters from each. I will be gathering my results by looking at each fighter's win and loss rate when fighting a shorter or taller opponent.
8.2. I will collect this data using a website called Boxrec which shows boxer’s records
8.3. Secondary research
8.4. I will test for outliers as i will be gathering lots of data from various wright classes which means it is likely to have outliers.
9. Data analysis
9.1. I will insert my results in in graphs and probability charts in order to evaluate them properly. I will create probabilities to represent my data and test them in order to see if they are accurate.
9.2. I will be identifying the trend between my variables and test for a linear relationship in order to identify a pattern in my results.
10. Reflection
10.1. The overall significance of my research connects to my aim and objective as doing extensive research will allow me to identify trends in boxer’s losses and wins and whether taller opponents do have an advantage or are more likely to win a boxing match.
10.2. My research will be based on statistics and probability however I could go into Number and algebra by using error and approximation to estimate values and calculate any percentage errors when calculating the win or loss rate of shorter and taller boxers.
10.3. When interpreting my data, I could use functions in order to create predictions between my 2 variables. For example, what is the win percentage rate of a boxer when taller than 1.80 meters
10.4. I will be gathering results from 4 different weight classes in order to get a variety of results and compare them all. I will also be gathering data from the top 20-30 fighters from each weight class in order to not limit my data.
11. Conclusion
