1. history: By 1948, the new United Nations Human Rights Commission had seized world attention. Under the dynamic presidency of Eleanor Roosevelt (widow of President Franklin Roosevelt, human rights defender in her own right and delegate of the United States to the UN), the Commission set out to draft the document that became the Universal Declaration of Rights Humans.
2. Security Council The Security Council sometimes faces serious violations of human rights that occur in conflict zones. The founding Charter gives it the authority to investigate and mediate, send a mission, assign special envoys or request the Secretary General to use his good offices.
3. Human Rights Council: The Human Rights Council, established in 2006, replaced the Human Rights Commission, with 60 years of work behind its back, as the key intergovernmental body responsible for this issue.
