Susan Sontag critiqued happenings in 1962. Theater Piece No. 1, @ black mountain college in NC in 1952 by john cage was a powerful influence to kaprow. Oldenberg and Dine also did Happenings. hard to comprehend bc they were not well recorded. basically, "you had to be there."
