1. The classroom environment impacted their reading in a positive manner. This open concept with flexible seating in my opinion seem to provide students with a welcoming atmosphere. It allowed this student in particular to feel comfortable with sharing his ideas in front of others.
2. The strategies the reader appeared to use while reading was looking for key words or familiar words that he was introduced to. This led him to make the connection to plate boundaries and their contribution to natural earth geological processes.
3. I would say the student was able to make the connection from the text to the larger lesson. I feel this way because his ability to make connections from personal experiences in the classroom and previous reading materials led him to be successful in answering questions.
4. This week in my senior block placement at BJHS, my science CT shifted from discussing about plate tectonics to volcanoes. The student I chose to focus on need to be able to relate that plate boundaries, specifically convergent boundaries, are the reason why mountainous land formations are created which can in turn also create volcanoes. This student showed comprehension by using prior knowledge to draw the connection.
5. The student navigated the text features by paying close attention to his classmates' reading. As a whole class, students took turns reading from the SmartBoard and filled out the questions listed on a given worksheet.
6. The student interacted with the text by assimilating the content and making connection with what he already knew. According to his body language, he exuded confidence by shooting his hand up to answer questions whenever my CT paused from the reading.
