1. Research Goals

1.1.5. Any other statistics that can help us better understand the fact of the community and to determine the turnaround sustainability

1.2.4. Community service partners in area

1.2.5. Crime facts

1.3. Find partnership contact information

1.3.1. Need to give more specific Instructions on what kind partners are we looking for

1.4. Try to improve and automate the process

1.4.1. Web scraping to automate finding contact information/partners (eg. Automating searching through linkedin and finding matches)

1.5. Think of the best way to combine and presenting the information to policy makers

1.6. Use whatever tools as needed

1.7. Give them some sample previous works but encourage them to be creative.

2. Location Based Groups

2.1. 3 Groups of different cities

2.1.1. DC

2.1.2. Las Vegas

2.1.3. Albuquerque

2.2. Each has 4-5 members

2.2.1. At least 1 have high tech background, 1-2 mid level, then 1-3 with no tech background

2.2.2. When new members are coming in, we can have them added to existing groups, or wait until there are enough people to form a new group to work on a new hotspots

2.3. Work on a 2-3 week-long project

2.3.1. Find a hotspot, or given a hotspot community

2.3.2. Requirements: Similar to research assignment 2 but combined with research goals

2.3.3. Timeline: 2-4 weeks to work on, will have a presentation in week 2, get some feedbacks from others and improve and finalized their work for submission

2.3.4. Within each group

2.3.4.1. potentially have one group lead

2.3.4.2. they will decide themselves how to divided the work to meet all the goals

2.4. Submission format

2.4.1. Presentation

2.4.1.1. Prefer PPT, but can use whatever other format as needed

2.4.2. Final Submission

2.4.2.1. Including all data files, docs, codes, visuals, plots, images.

2.5. Pros and Cons

2.5.1. Pros

2.5.1.1. Their work could be share to the whole organizations, and some of the research results (eg. faces or visuals on crime) could be used as add-on values (content) to post on Ins or Linkedin.

2.5.1.2. Every one could get involved in the whole process so that they will feel more motivated to work, and will learn from each other

2.5.1.3. Groups are sort of competing with each other as they will do the presentation and share their works with the whole team. (we can even let them vote for the best group)

2.5.1.4. Should be easier to manage and potentially more productive

2.5.1.5. Different group will attack the problem in different ways, which will bring innovations and new mehtods

2.5.2. Cons

2.5.2.1. Everyone from different locations, they don't know each other before, and they work online remotely, it would take efforts to do collaborate work and prepare for a presentation.

2.5.2.2. Since we will assign the group for them based on their background to balance each group, they will not have chance to choose their best city to work on.

2.5.2.3. Need to write some instruction and guidelines for the projects, and a time set for presentation.

3. Task Based Groups

3.1. haven't got an optimal solution yet
