2.1. Malone passes Roxtons test when he agrees to visit the drunken man in the neighborhood

3. Likeable Character

3.1. He loves Gladys

3.1.1. The way he expresses his love for Gladys is kind of childish--he wants to become her exact ideal.

3.1.2. His innocent words even make cold Gladys laugh.

3.2. Challenger opens his mind to Malone who is frank and honest. He sees him separately from other journalists who are fake, and approach him for malpurposes.

3.3. Challenger's wife also finds him likeable, and he should be, because of his job as a reporter.

4. Open and Daring

4.1. Malone accepts and acknowledges Challenger's theory about the dinosaurs in South America. He is unlike many scientists and journalists who reject Challenger's idea just because the ideas are too radical, and seem implausible.

4.2. He is charismatic among the crew in South America; his young spiritualism leads the crew in the way whenever they faced crisis: Indians, dinosaur attack, and the Ape-humans.

5. Consistent and Coherent

5.1. Although he went to the expedition initially because he wanted to become a hero for Gladys, he gets deeply involved in the scientific findings of dinosaurs and new human like species in the lost world.

5.2. He loves Gladys no matter how she rejects him, and after the expedition, he comes back to Gladys who already have married to William, a clerk.
