1. Proper use

2. Types

2.1. Class A (ASH)

2.1.1. Used for dry I.E Wood, paper, plastic, ETC

2.1.1.1. uses water to remove heat from flame

2.2. Class B (BARREL)

2.2.1. Used for oil, grease paint or other flammable liquids.

2.2.1.1. Uses dry chemicals to smother the fire

2.3. Class C (CIRCUIT)

2.3.1. Used for electrical

2.3.1.1. contains a non conductive agent to eliminate the fire.

2.4. Class D (METAL)

2.4.1. Used for exotic metals such as Magnesium, Potassium, and Sodium.

2.4.1.1. The only extinguisher effective against these combustible metals

2.5. APW (Air pressurized water)

2.5.1. Uses normal H2O to suppress the fire

3. Picking your extinguisher

3.1. Using the wrong type of extinguisher can spread the fire and make it worse.

3.1.1. Exinguishers with multiple classifications like the ABC eliminate your chances of choosing the wrong extinguisher.

3.2. Used on exotic metals such as magnesium

3.2.1. no other extinguisher is effective against these types of metals.

4. Remember

4.1. Fire extinguishers have a limited range and limited amount of extinguishing agent.

4.1.1. They are effective against small fires and should not be used in any of the following situations.

4.1.1.1. You have not been trained to use it

4.1.1.2. The fire spreads beyond it's immediate area.

4.1.1.3. The fire could block the escape route.
