1. Defining relative clauses

1.1. Function

1.2. We use it to give essential information about the person, thing, or place in the first half of the sentece.

1.3. Example:

1.4. Rafael Nadal is the tennis player who won Wimbledon in 2008.

1.5. Sunday is the play when I play tennis.

1.6. She's the swimmer that has two lucky mascots

2. Non-Defining relative clauses

2.1. Function

2.2. We use it to give extra information about the person, thing or place

2.3. We use commas to show that the information is not vital to the sentece.

2.4. Here we don't use 'that'

2.5. Example:

2.6. This city, where I was born, is famous for its football teams.

2.7. Beijing, where they held the 2008 Olympics, is a fascinating place.
