How did the echo come to be?

1. 1. Jupiter has many affairs.

1.1. Juno resents these many affairs.

2. 2. Echo is a very talkative nymph.

2.1. Echo inadvertently distracts Juno during one of Jupiter’s affairs.

3. 3. Juno believes (wrongly) that Echo conspired with Jupiter to distract her during the affair.

4. 4. Juno seeks to punish someone for Jupiter’s latest exploit.

4.1. Juno is unwilling (and perhaps unable) to confront Jupiter on his transgresses.

4.2. Juno is willing and able to punish mortals and nymphs such as Echo.

5. 5. Juno takes away Echo’s ability to speak. She is only able to repeat what is said by others; She is only able to echo.

5.1. Echo is unable to profess her love for Narcissus, she is only able to repeat what he says.

5.1.1. Echo’s heart is broken and she spends her days echoing what is said by others.
