作者:Alex Stewart
1. Pre-assessment
1.1. At the beginning of class we will complete a Plickers quiz on the different map projections that we have learned in the previous days lesson.
2. 5 students who showed a strong knowledge of the content
2.1. 1. Students will be given an article on "Why there is no perfect map projection" They will need to identify the main points and begin discussing which projection is the most accurate in their opinion.
2.2. 2. The goal of this advanced differentiated assignment is for students who have previous knowledge or who already understand the basic ideas of map projections to begin studying the why of each map projection.
2.3. 3. This differentiated activity will lead well into the group project about designing an original map projection. These students will already be thinking about why map projections are inaccurate and how they can be distorted. This knowledge will help their group in their project.
3. 12 students who have some knowledge but need improvement
3.1. 1. This group will work with partners and review the different projections using flashcards quizzing each other until they are ready to advance.
3.2. 2. They will also need to review which parts are distorted and where the projection is inaccurate.
3.3. 3. They will from memory make quick sketch review cards of each of the major projections taught in class. This way they are able to show in a creative way what each projection looks like and it shows that they have mastered the knowledge.
4. 5 students who have limited knowledge
4.1. 1. These students will gather around my desk and we will go through the Plickers Quiz again explaining which projection is which.
4.2. 2. Gathered together we will relearn the different map projections. We will go over slides and I will answer any student questions.
4.3. 3. We will then review the Plickers quiz again and the students will explain which projection they think it is and why.
