1. Definition
1.1. Establish comparative relationships between different things, people or situations.
2. Inferiority
2.1. To indicate an inferiority relationship use: LESS + adjective + THAN
2.1.1. Example: Our son is less studious than our three daughters.
3. Types
3.1. Superiority
3.1.1. For short adjectives (one syllable) use: Adjective + ER + THAN
3.1.1.1. Example: My dog and cat are bigger than yours.
3.1.2. For two-syllable adjectives, the addition ER is used. In words ending in Y you can substitute for IER and then add THAN.
3.1.2.1. Example: That test was easier than I thought.
3.2. Equality
3.2.1. In English, to compare two things or people equally, we use: AS + adjective + AS
3.2.1.1. Example: Our first apartment was as comfortable as his.
4. Irregular comparatives
4.1. Some very common adjectives have their comparative forms completely irregular.
4.1.1. Good: Better Little: Less Much: More
4.1.1.1. Example: I am better than my brother when it comes to play soccer and golf.
