3.1. If diet and exercise are not enough, insulin injections may be needed to lower your blood sugar. Between 10 and 20 per cent of women with gestational diabetes need insulin to reach their goals of blood sugar. Some doctors prescribe an oral medication (Metformin) to control blood sugar
