Displacement reaction&redox reaction 作者: Mind Map: Displacement reaction&redox reaction

1. Thermite reaction

1.1. Thermite is a material used in welding to melt metals together. It's a mixture of metallic aluminum and iron oxide which produces molten iron after a redox reaction. When the aluminium and oxygen in the mixture combine, the thermite will ignite generating hight temperatures.

1.2. aluminium+iron oxide->iron+aluminum oxide

2. Predict how fast a reaction occur

2.1. If two metals are close together in the series, then the reaction between them will be slow and gentle. For example, when powdered lead and copper oxide are heated together, copper is displaced from the copper oxide and lead oxide is produced but because the two metals have almost the same reactivity, the reaction will occur very slowly.

2.2. copper carbonate->copper oxide+carbon dioxide

2.3. potassium carbonate->no reaction

3. Metals

3.1. Lead for the radiation blanket because it is a dense metal and can block radiation

3.2. Copper in electricity wire because it does not react with fluids moving through pipes and does not corrode

3.3. Mercury in thermometer because it is the only metal that can be in liquid form

3.4. Gold for jewels because it is rare, shiny, and can be shaped to many shapes and it does not corrode while contacting skin

3.5. Silver-Use for electrical contacts because it is very unreactive so it does not corrode inside electrical equipment

3.6. Lead for roofing because does not react with water so it is ideal as a waterproof roof soft enough to be shaped easily

4. Displacement reactions

4.1. Magnesium+iron nitrate solution-> Magnesium nitrate+iron

4.2. Iron+lead chloride->iron chloride+lead

4.3. So basically the placement's order alter

5. Stuff

5.1. If iron gained oxygen, we can say that it is oxidized and its an oxidation reaction

5.2. Copper has lost the oxygen to the iron then it is reduced and it is a reduction reaction

5.3. Iron is reducing agent, copper oxide is an oxidizing agent for iron
