Ancient Civilizations

1. Indus

1.1. Farmers were able to grow food, and so the population grew.

1.2. Most experts think that their symbols/marks were a way of writing, but their are too few examples to be sure.

1.3. Facts suggest that the Indus Valley had a strong central government, yet no tombs or royal statues have been spotted/found.

2. Egypt

2.1. Egypt's civilization developed in a river valley with rich soil.

2.2. The Ancient Egyptians developed early forms of writing by 3200 B.C.

2.3. Two kingdoms developed in Egypt during the 3000s B.C.

3. Sumeria

3.1. India's first civilization grew around the valley of the Indus River.

3.2. The Sumerians invented cuneiform, which were wedge-shaped characters written on clay tablets

3.3. After fighting in wars, leaders were expected to give up their powers, but some kept their power and rose to be the first kings of Sumeria.

4. Huang

4.1. Farmers had settled in a number of villages, and powerful rulers united these villages and created kingdoms.

4.2. China used Oracle Bones, which were animal bones or turtle shells carved with written characters.

4.3. Shang rose to dominate a large part of the Huang river and became the first documented Chinese Dynasty.
