Essay Checklist - Bullying in schools and Robert as an example

1. Second Paragraph

1.1. Argument: Robert becomes a part of his class due to the movement.

1.2. Examples: The second cafeteria scene in the book 'The Wave' + the meeting after Laurie published the article about 'The Wave' in 'The Gordon Grapevine'. Other examples for bullying and how teenagers often adjust or change the way they behave: The movies 'Karate Kid', 'Carrie', 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid'

2. Third Paragraph

2.1. Argument: Due to the movement ending, Robert loses the sense of belonging he gained from it. This can lead to two outcomes: 1. The students treat him the way they did before and Robert once again is alone. 2. The students learned from the movement that bullying is not acceptable and treat Robert as a part of their class and their friend. The book can be used as a basis for the more likely scenario. Which in my opinion is the first one. The second argument is how bullying in general is extremely hard to stop due to the fact that very often bullying extends to outside of schools.

2.2. Examples: The final scene in 'The Wave' where Mr. Ross sees Robert crying. Other examples of bullying outside of schools can be taken from different movies like 'Carrie' and 'The Karate Kid'

3. Conclusion

3.1. Thesis: Robert has experienced bullying throughout his entire life. In the book 'The Wave' he was the student who gained the most out of the movement and also lost the most when the movement came to its end.

3.2. Own Personal Conclusion: Bullying is a big problem in schools and is often ignored by teachers. It can lead to students missing classes or not paying attention to them and because of that it makes the problem even worse. In addition to that, bullying often happens outside of schools as well. And while the bullying outside of schools is not within the reach of a teacher, the bullying inside schools is something that should be dealt with.

4. Introduction

4.1. Claim: Bullying has been a problem in schools since their inception. Whenever someone does not fit into the 'normal' picture, he or she gets bullied.

4.2. Thesis: Taking Robert as an example I want to show how he has been bullied before the wave movement began, how he gained the most out of the movement and how he lost the most, when the movement came to an end.

4.3. Road Map: The first paragraph will be about bullying in general and how Robert is being bullied in the book (The cafeteria scene is a perfect example here. It show the extent of Robert's bullying.) The second paragraph will be about how Robert gained the most out of the movement. The second cafeteria scene can be used as an example of how he became a part of the class. In addition to that, some other examples can be used to show how teenagers being bullied often change the way they behave, the clothing they wear... in order to fit into the 'normal' picture, so that the bullying stops. The third paragraph deals with the consquence of the movement ending. In the case of Robert, it is unclear whether the bullying stops or whether it resumes. In real life it is often not so easy. People that get bullied often change class, but that does not change the fact that the people bullying them are still on the same school.

5. First Paragraph

5.1. Examples: Robert's bullying with excerpts from the book 'The Wave'. + Different real life examples of bullying (Cyberbullying, Physical Bullying and so on)

5.2. Argument: Robert is being bullied pre movement and bullying is a part of schools.
