3.1. I would promote this in the sense that every planet sounds unique and together its different parts of a movie combined into one song.

4. Characteristics of Mars and How it relates to me

4.1. Mars is a dusty, cold, desert world with a very thin atmosphere. The surface of Mars shows us a dry, dusty, rocky surface. The southern half of the planet is much more rugged, with many more craters and highlands. The atmosphere used to be thick. As it relates to me, in the sense of atmosphere, usually I have a thick shell when getting criticized. In terms of the surface of Mars, rocky in the sense that I have a well-defined sense of character when it comes to my morals and values and it never crumbles.

5. How do the instuments interact with each other?

5.1. Violins and Trombones set the stage, then the trumpets come in. The drums provide an undertone for the piece as the trumpet’s complement in the background. During the intense parts, you occasionally hear gongs, trumpets horns to supplement. During the intense parts, it is primarily violin with everything else as an undertone. During the less intense part, it is a horn with trumpets complementing, then the violins come back in to make it intense. The drums set the stage between the intense and calm parts. Cellos and flutes take some of the calm parts setting the stage then the trumpets come back in. Trumpets and Trombones start to establish the intense part again with the bass drums. Mostly trombones during the intense parts, while trumpets and flutes definitely act as compliments. Violins then set the stage again around 6:50 for the final intense part as all other instruments finally come in as a loud end. The melody is very dark and intense.

7. Personal Connection to Music

7.1. The loud and intense parts describe me in the sense that I am very committed, determined, passionate, and serious about the things I put my mind to. The subtle breaks of calmness represent me being easygoing at times. When switching back to the intenseness of the piece, it can represent my impulsiveness in making decisions. The song implies a willingness to get the job done whatever it takes, maybe making personal sacrifices in order to do that however I am not sure my personality is exactly like that since I tend to put others before me.

10. How does the Music describe Mars?

10.1. The music accurately describes Mars and still does to this day. It sounds very rugged as the surface is described. The music is somewhat dark as drums have a steady beat. The overall melody becomes intense and cold as it gets louder. It gets very intense around the first 1:30 mark. When other instruments come in, it feels like star wars music during a battle or intense scene or a battle in a movie. It feels both like a battle is about to happen or in the middle of it depending on what part of the song is playing. After going back to a somber sound at the 4-minute mark, this accurately describes the desert-like surface of mars in the sense that nothing is there, no life is present. As it starts to crescendo again and get more intense around the 4:28 mark it feels like the rocky surface, very uneven and suspenseful. When the music settles down then crescendos hard around 6:50, it feels like it is going back to the rocky terrain of the planet.

11. How does it compare to a different piece?

11.1. Jupiter is much calmer and smoother than Mars. More joyful and more optimistic. It has a nice soft melody, contrary to Mars. It makes me feel way more relaxed than Mars, where Mars left me somewhat on edge/ anxious for what was about to happen. Jupiter uses mostly trumpets and trombones and violins. Mars is very much more upbeat and serious with trumpets and trombones. Jupiter gets somewhat loud and upbeat in the middle, however, it dies back down to being joyful, where Mars is much louder and intense throughout a longer portion of the song. In the end, it gives off a very joyful and optimistic vibe. A good way to put both songs in context is Mars as a precursor to war, the war itself, and then Jupiter as a loyal somewhat vicotoruis song as a triumphant king returns to his city.
