What is Technology? 作者: Mind Map: What is Technology?

1. What did you think technology was before the module?

1.1. I think technology before now was human using their knowledge to get their work done by any means necessary. Therefore, trying to use creative minds together to achieve results by using manual labour which eventually led to the birth of machinery or automotive labour.

2. Give a definition in your words and then support it.

2.1. Technology was born out of the will to achieve results easier and quicker thus reducing hard labour and creating a better way of life for people. Technology is not just a creation of both hardware (computer or chair) and software (Google Chrome) related inventions where one or both may function separately or with each other to complete a task that needs to be done. Technology can also be a creative thought that one may possess and able to use to complete a given task (YouTube 2019, July 22). It can also be an extension of life as stated by Kevin Kelly in which the galaxy evolves overtime (YouTube 2010, February 22).

2.1.1. 4+ unique examples of evidence from the current module. Humanity, fires, trees and gadgets are the 3 evidence given by Kevin Kelly from his Ted video. Kevin Kelly tells Technology’s epic story. (YouTube 2010, February 22). https://youtu.be/GS1xL1qcBa4

3. Is there something that you can think of that you do not consider technology, but others may?

3.1. I wouldn’t consider a horse technology as humans did not create a horse.

4. Technology can be seen as using one’s knowledge to create or invent tools, devices, gadgets, automotives, aviation and shipping and maritime technology which helps to make people lives on a whole much easier. Technology is seen also as more than electronics with the use of non electronic devices, tools or machinery such as solar panels and wind turbines to name a few.

4.1. According to Dean and LeMaster (1995), technology is defined as “firm-specific information concerning characteristics and performance properties of production processes and product design” (Li-Hua, 2007).

5. What do you think technology is now?

5.1. Technology is any idea that is not yet created as well as inventions created from that idea to make work or leisure easy to handle or enjoy doing.

6. Why do we need new technologies?

6.1. We need new technologies to improve travelling, saving lives, economic growth, tackling demographic crisis, improving quality of life, create more job opportunities and saving the planet. (Admin, 2021)

7. Is there one piece of technology that symbolizes the concept for you?

7.1. There is no one piece of technology that symbolizes the concept as technology can be just about any living and non-living thing around us.
