4. White Identity Development
4.1. Helms (1995). The theory assumes all individuals who identify as White begin with views of racism. The theory outlines a process of abandoning racism and moving toward a non-racist White identity.
5. Black identity Development
5.1. Cross (1971) adopted the idea of nigrescence, the process of becoming black, as the foundation for the later sector model developed with Fhagen-Smith. The model looks at the progression of identification of individuals as they move towards a healthy black identity.
