1. bullying is not a cause of school violence
1.1. cyber bullying is a serious problem but its not an unstoppable epidemic (Doucet)
1.1.1. Tom Mullaney was a lively 15-year-old boy with no history of being bullied, but all it took to shred his world apart was one night with 12 threatening Facebook messages from 6 of his classmates. (Doucet).
1.1.1.1. This makes me think of how rude kids can be in school to another person and how they treat people is so wrong.
1.1.2. One in three people aged between 11 to 17 are cyber bullied, with girls three times more likely. It goes to school with you, it comes home with you, it goes in the shower with you, it goes everywhere you go (Doucet).
1.1.2.1. this means a lot of people get bullied each day and it does not just happen in one place it happens all around you.
1.2. anti-bullying law--considered the toughest in the nation (N.J. Gov)
1.2.1. The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights requires schools to adopt anti-bullying policies (N.J. Gov).
1.2.1.1. this matters because it will help stop people from getting bullied and if there is a person disobeying the law there will be consequences.
1.2.2. train teachers to deal with the issue, and designate staff members to investigate student complaints of intimidation, even when the alleged incident has occurred off school grounds (N.J. Gov).
1.2.2.1. this is connected to the viewpoint because we are trying to find ways to stop the bullying issue we have in are society.
1.3. yellow 3- because if you don't want to take the chance of getting cyber-bullied then you can stay away from social media.
1.4. yellow 4- because we need to take action and put are foot down to stopping bullying instead of wanting it gone make it happen
2. bullying is a cause of school violence
2.1. anti bullying programs are not effective (Hymowitz).
2.1.1. students said they had been bullied during the previous year. In bad cases, kids are in despair, their grades suffer, and they avoid going to school (Hymowitz).
2.1.1.1. this means bullying is not just effecting peoples emotional state its also making the victims life slowly start to fall because of the persons actions
2.1.2. Almost immediately after the schools killings, news stories described a school environment dominated by athlete-bullies (Hymowitz).
2.1.2.1. i think this is true some athletes think just because they are in sports they are better than others and can talk to people anyway they want.
2.2. schools are no longer a safe place because it is filled with bullying(Kalman).
2.2.1. the tenth Columbine anniversary had more high-profile mass shootings than any six-week period in history (Kalman).
2.2.1.1. it matters because school shooting should be the last thing you want to hear come from a school facility people want there kids to be safe during the 8 hour time period there kids are learning.
2.2.2. the great majority of school shootings are perpetrated by victims who have been bullied, we need to get rid of bullies (Kalman).
2.2.2.1. this connects to the viewpoint because bullies are not just making people emotionally charged these actions are making others do things nobody knew they were capable of doing.
