Are a means to perpetuate ideas and processes for long periods of time after the initial members have moved on.
Enforce organiseational processes to ensure that all parts work together effectively.
provide a set of rules and processes for other institutions to interact with it effectively and efficiently

Some institutions in our society are:

The banking system - provides a means to enfore trading rules and allows us to trade money for goods.
School and University system - allows knowledge to be perpetuated between generations and allows refinement of ideas and grows our thinking capabilities.
Business - Smaller entities within larger institutions. Replicates the institution into smaller working groups
Franchises - easily repeatable businesses
Scouts and Girl Guides - teaches kids in fun and interesting ways, teaches morals

The institutional structure can be used for YADS so that it perpetuates its self, shapes thinking, breaks the community into smaller groups that work effectively together or seperately.
