1. Science Lessons
1.1. Lessons about how different parts of the body works. Example: How the lungs work
1.2. Children learn the external body parts S.K-2.B.1.1.1 Describe basic external structures of animals and plants.
1.3. Lesson on what the human body needs in order to survive Standard - 3.1.2.C2 Explain that living things can only survive if their needs are being met.
2. Have students use a computer to create a collage of different systems in the body. Standard - 9.1.M.2.J1 Use a variety of technologies for producing or performing works of art.
3. Dramatic Arts
3.1. Students will recreate their own bodies by creating a self-portrait using many different items Standard - 9.1.V.2.E1 Use imagination and creativity to express self through visual arts.
3.2. Children can create a skeleton of the bones using Q-tips and compare them with real skeletons Standard - 9.3.2.F1 Use critical processes (e.g., compare, contrast) to examine works of art.
3.3. Have students create a song and dance to help remember how the lungs work. Standard - 9.1.M.2.E1 Use imagination and creativity to design and perform music and dance.
4. Students will use their measurements from their heights and create either a bar graph or line graph representing the data collected. Standard - CC.2.4.2.A.4 Represent and interpret data using line plots, picture graphs, and bar graphs.
5. Math Lessons
5.1. Students will draw parts of the human body. Standard - CC.2.3.2.A.1 Analyze and draw two- and three-dimensional shapes having specified attributes.
5.2. Students will use skeleton images to separate them into halves and quarters Standard - CC.2.3.2.A.2 Use the understanding of fractions to partition shapes into halves, quarters, and thirds.
5.3. Students will measure the height of their bodies. Standard - CC.2.4.2.A.1 Measure and estimate lengths in standard units using appropriate tools.
6. ELA Lessons
6.1. Have students write acrostic poem using their name and words that are body parts Standard - CC.1.4.2.E Choose words and phrases for effect.
6.2. Have students read informational texts with graphics of the human body. Standard - CC.1.2.2.G Explain how graphic representations contribute to and clarify a text.
6.3. Have students read narrative texts about the body. Magic School Bus Standard - CC.1.3.2.K Read and comprehend literature on grade-level, reading independently and proficiently.
6.4. Have students discuss times when they have been injured or broken bones and what happened to fix them. Standard - CC.1.5.2.D Tell a story or recount an experience with appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details, speaking audibly in coherent sentences.
