5th Grade METS

1. Example: Students will use digital microscopes to collect and create a presentation using animoto showing the difference between plant and animal cells.

2. By the end of 5th grade students will use basic input and output devices (e.g., printers, scanners, digital cameras, video recorders, projectors)

3. Example: Students create a video clip to be placed on the school website describing how students can stay safe on the internet.

4. By the end of 5th grade, students shoul be able to identify the types of personal information that should not be given out on the Internet (name, address, phone number, picture, school name)

6. Students will collect information about sunrise and sunset times throughout the year, as well as temperature. Data will be kept on an excel spreadsheet, This data will be used to solve mystery locations that are supplied by the Journey North website.

7. By the end of 5th grade, students will use information and communication technology tools (e.g., calculators, probes, videos, DVDs, educational software) to collect, organize, and evaluate information to assist with solving problems

11. Example: Internet scavenger hunt-students will have to find answers to several questions with multiple answers. When the time comes to reveal "correct" answers, students will see that the internet has inaccuracies in it's information. Discussion will follow with tips on finding "good" websites and how to make sure that the information found is accurate.

12. By the end of 5th grade, students will understand that using information from a single Internet source might result in the reporting of erroneous facts and that multiple sources should always be researched.
