1. ACTS LIKE

1.1.1.1. Atticus tries to prove in the courthouse that Mayella is abused by her father

1.2. Cowardly

1.2.1. '"Low-down skunk with enough liquor in him to make him brave enough to kill children. He'd never have met you face to face."' (page 296)

1.2.1.1. Bob Ewell is to cowardly to face Atticus so instead he goes for his children, in the dark when they are alone - an act no man with a shred of courage would carry out.

1.3. Uneducated

1.3.1. '"That's m'name, cap'n"' (page 189); '" - I seen that black nigger down younger ruttin' on my Mayella!"' (page 190); 'The witness had never thought of this (calling a doctor), he had never called a doctor to any of his'n in this life, it he had it would have cost him five dollars.' (page 193)

1.3.1.1. From the way Bob Ewell talks in a highly formal situation (in the courthouse) and the fact that it did not occur to him to call a doctor when he supposedly saw Mayella being abused by Tom, it can be concluded that Bob Ewell is an uneducated man. This is supported by the fact that he is unemployed - he is given relief cheques.

2. FEELS LIKE

2.1. Threatened

2.1.1. "I destroyed his last shred of credibility at the trial, if he had any to begin with. That man had to have some kind of comeback, his kind always does."'(241)

2.1.1.1. Bob Ewell feels threatened by Atticus after he destroys any possibility of Bob Ewell becoming a hero for his actions.

2.2. Hateful

2.2.1. 'Mr Bob Ewell stopped Atticus on the post-office corner, spat in his face, and told him he'd get him if it took him the rest of his life.' (page 239). '

2.2.1.1. After threatening Atticus, Bob tries to kill his children after the school fair which ultimately led to his death.

2.3. Overconfident

2.3.1. "It was becoming evident that he thought Atticus an easy match. He seemed to grow ruddy again; his chest swelled, and once more he was a red little rooster. I thought he'd burst his shirt at Atticus's next question." (page 194)

2.3.1.1. In the courthouse, Bob Ewell becomes extremely overconfident when he starts to think that he is better than Atticus.

3. HOW OTHERS SEE HIM OR HER...

3.1. Racist

3.1.1. "He stood up and pointed his finger at Tom Robinson. '—I seen that black nigger yonder ruttin’ on my Mayella!'" pg190

3.1.1.1. Even in a Court room he still has the guts to stand up and call someone a 'nigger'. In the Court room there was a group of blacks watching which he obviously had no respect or even consideration for.

3.2. Gutless

3.2.1. Mr Tate says that Bob Ewell would never attack Atticus, thats why he went for his kids.

3.2.1.1. Mr Tate sees Bob for what he really is: gutless and cowardly, and he says this to prove it to himself and other around him.

4.1.1.1. Scout explains how he looks with great detail. When she says 'the black of his neck reddening the sound of his name' really gives a good description to how he appears.
