1. Preschool Period
1.1. Cognitive
1.1.1. Intuitive thought developed when in the preschool period; I always asked my parents "Why?" whenever I was told to do something or look at how something worked. I had a large vocabulary and enunciated my words well (proper grammar).
1.2. Physical
1.2.1. I was average size during the preschool period (height and weight). According to my mom I was a healthy kid with the occasional cold.My gross motor skills were well developed; I was running all over the place and climbing trees. Some of my fine motor skills came quickly, like eating with forks and spoons, and others took longer to develop, like tying my shoes. Handedness-wise, I preferred my right hand over my left.
1.3. Socioemotional
1.3.1. As an only child, I participated in constructive play most, using my imagination often when playing. My parents would fall under the authoritative category for the preschool period. I think I had developed prosocial behavior through positive reinforcement. I was not an aggressive preschooler and normally thought of others before myself.
2. Infancy & Toddlerhood
2.1. Cognitive
2.1.1. Object permanence develops in this stage of life. I started babbling and talking around 3 months and 10 months, respectively. My first word was "Dad". I was potty trained by 18 months. In toddlerhood I used the "Hooked on Phonics" flashcards and movies to learn words and language skills.
2.2. Physical
2.2.1. My neurons were quickly synapsing and multiplying during this stage. My parents can't remember specifics about when I started walking and crawling, but they did say I was earlier to gain these skills than the average toddler.
2.3. Socioemotional
2.3.1. When my parents wanted to go out, I would exhibit a little bit of separation anxiety. I definitely developed stranger anxiety because I was always babysat by family. Apparently I just stared at strangers and wouldn't talk (or babble) to them. I was a smiley baby but when I would think or try to figure something out I would make a "studying" face. In regards to temperament, I was an easy baby, however when I became more active I would get frustrated if I couldn't do something. I had one best friend who I grew up with (and we're still friends today), so we would always have play-dates.
3. Middle Childhood/School-age
3.1. Cognitive
3.1.1. My metalinguistic awareness development was probably one of my better cognitive traits in middle childhood. I prefer when language is used correctly and strive for effective communication. I began taking Spanish in middle school (bilingual development). I was very math and science oriented in middle childhood (good fluid intelligence).
3.2. Physical
3.2.1. I would say I officially became an athlete in middle childhood. I was in ballet, joined a cross country team, and played golf, so I was a very active child. My muscle coordination developed well and was useful in the sports I was involved in. To this day I prefer to write in cursive, so my fine motor skill development in middle childhood was important (I learned cursive in 3rd grade)!
3.3. Socioemotional
3.3.1. I was still fairly shy in middle childhood, but I slowly started to socialize more with peers. I had a few close friends who I hung out with a lot. For the most part my self-esteem was high (maybe not so much in my socializing abilities).
4. Adolescence
4.1. Cognitive
4.1.1. I think my prefrontal cortex (in charge of impulse control, among other things) developed quickly because I was not a very impulsive adolescent. I tended to think and consider the benefits and consequences before I acted. I do remember the adolescent egocentrism because I thought everything that occurred was my fault (I recall it mostly with negative events).
4.2. Physical
4.2.1. When I hit adolescence, I grew fairly quickly. I was inches taller than my mom in no time! I would say I matured at the "average" age for girls.
4.3. Socioemotional
4.3.1. I was (and still am) a happy, stable, and optimistic person. In my search for autonomy, I didn't create many conflicts with my parents or friends. I would say I was in between a controversial and popular adolescent.
5. Early Adulthood
5.1. Cognitive
5.1.1. In this stage I am increasing my cognitive abilities and knowledge. Attending college and finding a job will be tasks in early adulthood. The ability to think completely for myself and make big life decisions will become evident in this stage.
5.2. Physical
5.2.1. I have finally grown into my "adult" body and established the look I want to portray to the world. I will continue living an active lifestyle. Sometime during this stage I hope to have a child, therefore my body will undergo physical changes to support and bounce back from having a baby.
5.3. Socioemotional
5.3.1. By now I feel like I have defined who I am as a person and my beliefs. They are subject to change, but at this stage I feel confident in what I believe and feel. Social interaction is important, because it can create a diverse mindset and prepare for future interactions with varying individuals. Finding a husband is a big aspect of this stage and I believe I have already found mine, so building a stronger relationship with him is what I will focus on.
6. Middle Adulthood
6.1. Cognitive
6.1.1. At this point in my life, I would like to be secure in my career as a Registered Dietitian and have acquired enough knowledge and experience to do my job well. Even though I will most likely have all the necessary knowledge pertaining to my life, I hope I will be able to expand my cognitive capabilities through new experiences.
6.2. Physical
6.2.1. As always I want to stay active, participating in races and going on recreational vacations.
6.3. Socioemotional
6.3.1. There will be changes in this stage of life and I hope to be prepared for what the changes bring. I would like to continue to be satisfied with how I look and feel about myself.
7. Late Adulthood
7.1. Cognitive
7.1.1. In late adulthood, I hope to have my cognitive functions remain intact. I know some clarity and memory will be compromised, but I hope I won't lose too much of it.
7.2. Physical
7.2.1. I plan on staying fit as long as I am able, so I believe I will remain fairly strong into late adulthood. Hopefully I won't have any health problems that would hinder my ability to exercise.
7.3. Socioemotional
7.3.1. I want to be a lively older person, hanging out with my friends and family a majority of the time. I hope to be emotionally stable and content with the life I have lived.
8. Death & Dying
8.1. Cognitive
8.1.1. A functional death would be preferable over a brain death, because I do not care to live in a coma. I hope my death comes at a point where it will be accepted by myself and those close to me.
8.2. Physical
8.2.1. I am not sure yet how I feel about DNRs and machines to keep me alive. I hope to not be in any physical pain when I am dying.
8.3. Socioemotional
8.3.1. I think I would prefer a fast death rather than a slow one. If I do die a slow death, however, I hope to skip some of the steps in the Kubler-Ross theory, like anger and depression. I hope my friends and family accept my death and can move on with their lives quickly, remembering the good times we had.
