1. NERVOUS SYSTEM

1.1. Functions:

1.1.1. Centralising and processing information that reaches our body

1.1.2. receives the information transmitted by the sensory organs

1.1.3. Interprets that information and prepares adequate responses

1.1.4. Transfers the necessary signals to the effector organs

1.1.5. Coordinates all the organs so that they function correctly in our body

1.1.6. Carries out intellectual and mental functions

1.1.7. It´s responsible for our emotions and feelings

1.2. Divided into:

1.2.1. Central nervous system

1.2.1.1. Made up of

1.2.1.1.1. Nerve centres responsible for integrating information received, coordinating it and preparing a response.

1.2.1.1.2. Brain (protected by the skull)

1.2.1.1.3. Spinal cord (protected by the spine)

1.2.1.1.4. Three membranes, (MENINGES), between the protecting bone and the organs: dura, arachnoid and pia matter. Cerebrospinal fluid is found between each layer

1.2.1.1.5. Grey matter (carry out certain functions) and white matter

1.2.2. Peripheral nervous system

1.2.2.1. Connects all of the receptors and effectors in the body to the nerve centre. Made up of nerves

1.2.2.1.1. Sensory nerves: transmit information from the sensory organs

1.2.2.1.2. Motor nerves: send signals to the effector organs

1.2.2.1.3. Mixed nerves: contain both sensory and motor fibres

1.2.2.2. Divided into

1.2.2.2.1. Somatic nervous system

1.2.2.2.2. Autonomic nervous system
