1.5. Colonists were familar with local geogrpahy and often hid from the british.

2. Culture

2.1. Farmers, and townspeople trained to defend themselves from the British, creating "minutemen". This left the responsibility of food and supplies on others, increasing the need and decreasing focus on other things such as education

2.2. Protestantism and puritans influenced society. Preachers and charities increased during this time

2.3. many colonists became independent and believed in the idea of self rule.

2.4. Education was scarce. Girls were taught sewing, music, and drawing from home. Boys were usually done with school at age 9 and took on responsibilities such as farming and hunting.

3.1. England grew debt from seven year war, to cover the cost they inplemented taxes on goods coming in and going out of the colonies

3.3. Trades were resticted, however after they were lifted merchant marines, and the manufactory industry developed.

3.4. colonies were heavily involved in trade. Americans bought 1/3 of west indies refined sugar, and 1/2 of englands textile industry

3.5. American standard of living was high because the basic needs for living were reached pretty easily. This left excess funds that were used for luxuries

3.6. Each region in the colonies specailized in different things, making trade desirable.

4.1. women are still being seen as inferior, however many were becoming fed up and wanted equality of the sexes

4.4. Crime rose in major cities such as Boston and New York. Riots, protests, and smuggling were common

4.5. Gender roles were being brought into slavery, Males were used for labor and females were used for more domestic needs.

4.6. Colonist were unfair to Natives during trade, this led to "Pontaics Rebellion" where hundreds were killed and approx. 9 forts were taken over by angry Natives.

4.7. Northern states such as North Virginia differed with south on the topic of slaves. North Virginia revoked voting rights of slave owners to promote equality.

5.4. French and Indian war (1754-1763) sent England into debt. In responses to the debt, England created the Stamp Act, which increased taxes on goods going in and out of the colonies.
