Sedimentary Rock

1. After millions of years the plant material forms carbon and from this we get oil, coal, natural gas, and petroleum.
2. Fossils are often found in sedimentary rock
3. Sedimentary rock is formed when small broken bits of rock and sand are carried by water and wind and end up as layers at the bottom of lakes and oceans.
3.1. Sometimes plants are mixed in with the sedimentary layers of rock.
3.2. These layers are called strata.
4. Only about 8% of the earth's crust is made up of sedimentary rock.
5. Iron gives much sedimentary rock its reddish color.
6. Flint, coal, chalk, limestone, and sandstone are all examples of sedimentary rock.
