
1. PHYSICAL
1.1. Eating disorders
1.1.1. "Good thing my lips are stitched together or I'd throw up." pg 46 Melinda sees IT which sparks memories and make her want to throw up.
1.1.2. "She notices Andy Evans and gets nauseous" pg 86 Her body will instantly react to a person who sexually assaulted her.
1.2. Listlessness
1.2.1. "Homework is not an option. My bed is sending out serious nap rays." pg 17 She has too little energy to do homework which is something important.
1.2.2. "I showered until the hot water was gone, then I crawled in bed and did not sleep." pg 72 Melinda was too tired to deal with whatever was happening.
1.3. Inability to concentrate
1.3.1. "How could she know this? I don't know what I'm doing in the next five minutes and she has the next ten years figured out." pg 53 Melinda is so distracted comparing herself to others, that she forgets to focus on herself.
1.3.2. "I tune out and focus on my doodle, a pine tree. I've been trying to carve a linoleum block in art class." pg 54 Melinda can't focus on class and she distracts herself by doodling.
1.4. Attempts to injure self
1.4.1. "My nails are bitten to the bleeding point." pg 83 Melinda has severe anxiety that she bites her fingernails injuring herself.
1.4.2. "I open up a paper clip and scratch it across the inside of my left wrist." pg 87 She is so over everything and wants to get it over with but she isn't able to.
2. PSYCHOLOGICAL
2.1. Sense of helplessness
2.1.1. "I am and Outcast." page 4 She finds no hope in feeling included.
2.1.2. "My throat squeezes shut, as if two hands of black fingernails are clamped on my windpipe" pg 28 She is getting confronted of why she called the cops of the party where IT happened. The only thing she feels is helplessness.
2.2. Depression
2.2.1. "I watch myself in the mirror across the room. Ugh." pg 16 Melinda is so depressed she can't even see her own beauty anymore.
2.2.2. "My goal is to go home and take a nap." pg 24 Melinda can´t handle her problems so she sleeps instead of facing them.
2.3. Fear of being threatened
2.3.1. "I see IT in the hallway. It goes to Merryweather. It is walking with Aubrey Cheerleader. IT is my nightmare and I can't wake up. IT sees me. IT smiles and winks." pg 46 She is terrified just by looking at IT.
2.3.2. "I have worked so hard to forget every second of that stupid party, and here I am in the middle of a hostile crowd that hates me for what I had to do" pg 28 She is simply afraid of being threatened right when she is surrounded by people who hate her.
2.4. Sense of not being believed
2.4.1. "Nobody really wants to hear what you have to say." pg 9 I feel that Melinda thought that if you talk about what happened no one will believe you so what's the point on talking about it.
2.4.2. "Every time I try to talk to my parents or a teacher, I sputter or freeze. What is wrong with me?" pg 50-51 Melinda isn't able to speak up and she gets so flustered when she tries because she feels like whoever she tells won't believe her.
