1. Intro Letter

1.1. Dear Portfolio Reader: In this portfolio I included a variety of pieces of projects/work to display a wide view of my abilities. I tried to show the presence of awareness of my audience. My purpose of this portfolio by providing several different styles of writing. You will see that I learned a lot more since last year to now. My strengths were presenting and learning information for my group. It is even public opinion that I do a lot of work. My future plans for the rest of high school is to take more notes and try to learn more for my projects. My plans for the future is to go to college right out of high school. I don't know which school I want to go to ,but which ever school accepts me is fine. Depending on the school also. My plans for five years from now is to either still be in school or the military. College comes first though or I'll be hearing it from my mom. My portfolio shows the assignments I have completed and the projects as well. It has some of my work from last year ,but that's just to show how I have improved as a student over the year. My portfolio shows what I have accomplished in high school so far. It shows my work as an individual and as group member. My best academic grade for a project was my “Deviance Does”, project when I got full credit. A whole 100 points! My accomplishments over the past year were academically great. I had perfect attendance for the first quarters of this year. What really boosted my confidence for the year was Wabash college sending me letters in the mail personally to tell me to really consider their college. Thank you for reading my portfolio. 2. Culture and You

2.1. I identifed Kim because she started the garden and i start a lot things. She also wanted to honor her father and i love making my parents proud of who I am. My family dosen't really have that many deaths, so i can't really relate to it. My great grandmothers died and i didn't really know them ,but i don't really know much about them either so i can't really do something in their honor. In the poem the charcters that relate to the novel are the son and Kim becuase they both sorrow over a family members death. They both just keep living and carry on with their lives and are almost the same culture. I also can relate Leona's grandmother to the poems grandmother because their both grandmothers. They both are pashanent about their heratige. They both have grandkids. Plus they both are old. I know it only says 2 ,but I can relate the mother from the poem to Kim also because they both sorrow over a family mebers death and they both honnored that family member. In the poem they sang and in the novel she grew plants.

4. Never Forget

4.1. SS 4.1 I identified major characteristics of social groups familiar to my fellow students. SS 6.3 Describe how collective behavior can influence and change society. SS3.1 Describe how social status affects social orders.

4.2. Twenty five folds, fifteen creases, and one movement. For thousands of years the Japanese culture has treasured the crane as a symbol of honor and loyalty. The crane is a majestic bird which mates for life and is extremely loyal to its partner. The Jewish people in the Holocaust died loyal to their religion, their faith, and their honor. Red is the color of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war,and danger. The color red is greatly connected to the Holocaust. The word Holocaust originally from the Greek word Holokauston, which means sacrifice by fire. At the nazi work camps the Jews were burned after being gassed or killed another way. In step five of folding an origami crane you must unfold the paper and turn it over. During the Holocaust the germans forced the Jews to live isolated from everyone else in a place called a ghetto. The conditions of these ghettos were unbearable. Plus there was very little food. About four hundred thousand people in a two point five square mile area. During this time the germans targeted the Jewish population of Europe. In 1993, the Jewish population was a little over nine million. By 1945, the germans killed two out of every three European Jew. About six million in total are accounted for being dead because of the Holocaust. Anti- Semitism really took a toll on the Jewish people. The Jewish people started off as a blank piece of paper. Then Nazi Germany took it and folded and creased them into a crane. Crane symbolizing death. The crane is a beautiful thing. So is after death. Going to a better place. It is kind of ironic that I am using the crane. The crane is supposed to symbolise long life. The japanese believe in folktales that cranes live up to one thousand years. The crane is symbolic for happiness. The wings are said to be holders of the souls as they go up to paradise. A mother would pray to the cranes wings for the protection of her children. O flock of heavenly cranes cover my child with your wings. In the Holocaust children were killed at camps. If they couldn’t work or were too young they were killed on the spot. The elders would pray for them ,but not in public only in private. These were hard times for Jewish mothers. The loss of a child is just devastating. Hitler did not care though. He just wanted the Jews gone. During a bad time some people pray to get their mind off of something. Distracting themselves from reality. Hoping that things will get better. Well that is kind of what Adolf hitler did. After world war one Germany was in debt. Hitler promised he would fix it if he was elected in a democratic election. The Jews were a traditional target for conspiracy theories and were not well placed to fight back. They were an easy target. The crane and the Holocaust are very similar. They have different background information ,but they connect. They are very opposite too. The crane represents happiness and joy while the Holocaust is sadness and filled with hatred. After the Jews died in the Holocaust they believed that they were reincarnated into another life. Any life was better than the one they were living.

13. My ECA Review

13.1. My eca was not that difficult. I threw it out of the water. Next year I will be going to AP and U.S history. I will also be reading for 20min a day for this summer. Plus while I am on the topic of summer. I will be at Indiana state's campus to talk to people who go there and to get a tour of the school.

14. Closing

14.1. At this point in the semester, I wanted to be a better writer. I feel that I have improved on both my writing and organizational skills. The help I got from my peers and teachers really helped me this year. I tried to used their ideas mixed with my own to get a good grade on projects. I used ideas and things I learn from older projects to incorporate new ideas for the new projects. I also used my peers help also. They were a lot of help over the year. I tried to use my ideas with the reflection of my peers. I tried to use most of the suggestions that were given to me by my peer reviewers. The last years portfolio can also be an example of how I have improved on my writing and organizational skills. The point of the last years portfolio was to explain what I had achieved through the year. I also compared the work that I had done with the work I've done last year with this years. The goals that I strive for as I completed the last project are to illustrate all the skills that I have learned throughout the entire semester. It was the last project and I have a lot of experience doing projects so it wasn’t something new. This year was a great learning experience. I grew a lot over the year. This year was fun. This portfolio should show you how I grew over the year. Hopefully you will enjoy reading. What am I saying? I know you are going to like it.

15. My Growth As a Writter

15.1. This years essay Our countries military. It is one of the best armed forces in the world at what they do. They get specific training to master their work. High class training that only a select view can teach. At 18 that is to much pressure for kids. Even at 18 when their legally adults shouldn't be able to join the military that soon. These kids need to live life a little first. Their right out of high school and full of energy. They should be able to make a choice to go to college or the military. In different countries though many kids don't get the privilege of doing what they want. Some have to go to the military. Even if they don't want to. If they have loved sick ones at home to take care of then they better find someone to take care of them. A year can have a big impact on their life too. A year can change them. Mold them into a completely different person. With no communication of the outside world. Just their training. You gotta imagine the sociological damage that has to do to a person. Speaking of sociological damage. If they decide to stay even longer than a year. That is crazy for some people. It all depends on your country and type of training I guess. Say in America, someone had to take a year of military and went insane. Who is there to stop the mad man with a gun in his hand. They shouldn't put 18 year old kids be in the military. They should let them develop and mature more first. These kids should have a choice though. America is all about freedom of speech. The government should make anyone who wants to be in the military take a lot of tests first. Just to make sure they are able to handle the pressure of being in the armed forces. I am against putting young adults in my county's military because they shouldn't have to go where they don't want to. If the country is running low on soldiers they should just promote it when they graduate. So they know their choices after high school. Especially the kids with big dreams after high school. The ones who want to be famous actors or superstars. You can't just deprive a young adult of their life long dreams of doing what they want. That is just wrong. The military does have a lot of jobs in it though. In the military there are a lot of jobs. For the kids who want to be doctors or another job. The military have jobs that train them for the future. For some people them military is just training for their future job. Real practice on real jobs. You could say its like working for free. Except they get paid for what they do and its only practice. Finally, I have came to the agreement that I am against forcing kids into the military. Their 18 and are legally an adult so they should have the choice. Besides combat training isn't for everyone. Only the special kind of people. The ones who run toward the screams of danger. The people who are not scared to get a little dirty. The strong,the respected, and the brave marines.

15.2. last years essay we humans need challenges in are life because we need to entertain or life. we need hard challenges to help us grow and to help us mature. help are body grow. a growing body is a good body.when your trying to beat a goal you don't want negative energy around you. you want positive energy around you so you want to surround yourself with good friends that help you in the long run. i think that people should have a good alternative to get rid of negative energy. like high school its challenging ,but it helps people mature and grow their bodies. mentally growing through a challenge is hard but if you can get through it you can go through anything. through my own experience iv never really had a mental challenge. i am sure when the time comes ill be ready. emotional challenges are the worse. they play mind tricks. you'll get mad at Innocent people and do stupid things. if you can overcome an emotional challenge like breaking up with a girlfriend or losing someone you care about. those are emotional times , but you can get through it. i say to just move along. you can let emotional demons you will grow mentally and become stronger. physical challenges are always hard to beat ,but you will grow beating it in every kind of way. you will be stronger. when i was ten my first year of football i had no idea what i was doing until people started tackling me. so i started hitting back. that helped grow physically, mentally, and emotionally. that was my story of how to grow.
