  January 17, 1706 in Boston 10th son of his father (had 17) 1723 - Ran away to Philadelphia 1728 - William (illegitimate son) was born 1730 - married Deborah Read 1729 - Pennsylvania Gazette 1731 - launched Library Company Represented Pennsylvania in 1757 until 1775 in England Colonial representative of Georgia, New Jersey & MA too. considered himself loyal Englishman 1754: proposed that colonies unite 1756: wondered if America should get its independence Hutchinson Affair:English governor in MA was being a hypocrite & doing in purpose to listen to Americans, but wrote letters to the English king. He sent letters to American. Caused to be exiled. Asked William for help -> declined. = conflict btwn the two drafted the Declaration of Independence . 1776: went to France 1778: convinced the French to sign the Treaty of Alliance delate to Constitutional Convention & signed the Constitution 1789: anti-slavery treaty
