WHAT IS TECHNOLOGY
by Yashvi Patel
1. WHAT DID I THINK TECHNOLOGY WAS BEFORE THE MODULE?
1.1. Technology is something that makes our work faster and easier
1.2. It helps us to connect to the people who lives far away from us or to new people.
1.3. Example: Phone, Computers, TV, Playstation. etc.
1.4. "Technology includes more than machines, processes and inventions." (Li-Hua, 2007)
2. WHAT DO YOU THINK IT IS NOW?
2.1. According to Kumar and Persaud (1999), technology has two components: 1) Physical like tools, equipments, and blueprints. 2) Informational knowledge in management, production, and problem-solving.
2.2. According to Thomas Hughes (2004) in his book Human-Built World: How to Think about Technology and Culture, Technology is complex. It is not only about machines but it also involves human's relationships with the them.
2.2.1. "Technology is not just the phones in our pockets adn the laptops in our bags" (Dryer, 2009)
2.3. W Brian Arthur (2009) in his book The nature of technology: What it is and how it evolves, defines technology as means to fulfill a human purpose, whether through methods, processes, devices, or materials. It is also an assemblage of practices and components, combining different elements to achieve goals.

4. HAVE YOUR IDEAS CHANGED?
4.1. Yes, my views have definitely changed. Before, I thought of technology mainly as tools or devices that make our work easier and that helps us to connect with others like phones or computers.
4.2. However, after reading the module, I now see technology as more complex. Kumar and Persaud (1999) show that it includes both physical tools and informational knowledge.
4.3. Thomas P.Hughes (2004) emphasizes that technology is about how humans interact with tools, that shape society and culture.
4.4. W. Brian Arthur (2009) broadens the definition by explaining that technology is a means to fulfill human purpose that incoporate practices, methods, and components.
4.5. Technology is now more than just devices. It is dynamic and important part of progress and societal growth.
5. WHY DO WE NEED NEW TECHNOLOGIES?
5.1. Solve new problems: new challenges require new solutions which can be made easier with the help of technology.
5.2. Improve Efficiency: New technolgies streamline processes will make tasks faster and cost effective.
5.3. Enhance Connectivity: They enable better communication, collaboration, and access to global information.
