1. He loves his son and treats him well. pg 47: When he saw Bruno, he broke into a wide smile.

2. On page 44 it states Father "looked smart in his freshly pressed uniform " and "His thick dark hair had obviously been recently lacquered and combed." It also says that Bruno felt both scared and in awe of him

4. The fact that Father had cared and taken the time to make himself look presentable showed that he cared about his looks, made me think he was a neat man. Bruno was scared of him because he looked so intimidating yet he was in awe as Father looked very handsome

6. His voice is a very strong one and it is so loud such that it can be heard from quite a distance. This is shown on pg 47," he heard his booming voice from inside".

7.1. Father is loyal. pg 50 "This is my work. important work. important to our country." from this it shows that Father is very committed to his work and also his country as he senses the importance of his work to the country.

7.2. Father is compliant all his life. " 'Yes, but I also knew that my father, your grandfather, knew what was best for me and that I was always happiest when I just accepted that. Do you think that I would have made just a success of my life if I hadn't learnt when to argue and when to keep my mouth shut and follow orders?' " He had been disciplined to follow what was expected of him and do it silently so up till now, he believes in doing so because of his success.

8.2. Father is calm and does not shout but his effect was scary enough Page 54 '' He tensed slightly and got ready to make a run for it if necessary. But nothing seemed to be making father angry today- and if Bruno was honest with himself he would admitted that father rarely got angry. He became quiet and distant and always had his way in the end anyway- and rather than shouting at him ,he simply shook his head and indicated that their debate was over.'' The fact that Bruno was tensed up even though his father said nothing explained that his presence was enough.

Even before Bruno had entered the particularly large room, he heard Father from outside. His voice also shows that he is composed and it is quite deep in tone as well.

9.2. He was manly. Instead of giving Bruno a hug, he shook his hand solidly, unlike Mother and Grandmother, who gave them a little too often for comfort, complementing them with slobbering kisses. He did not do any of that sort. He does not show his kindness through actions but instead disguises them in words. Father also called Bruno in a very adultish way by referring to him as his 'his boy' and not calling him by a given nickname or saying it in a sing-song manner. 11.1. Father is very calm and composed. "Father's smile faded only a little", "he said in a gentle voice", this is as stated on page 49. When he heard Bruno's reply, although readers could tell that he was quite frustrated at Bruno's remark, he still kept his cool and was trying his best not to show his inner feelings when his "smile faded only a little". He responded in a gentle voice towards Bruno however we can tell that he felt rather disappointed but tried not to display it. Most fathers, when frustrated, would normally start to shout at that person or even start scolding them for having to be an annoyance. Father simply replied to his son in the best tone and way he could muster and Bruno could not tell his inner feelings. He hardly raised his voice. This shows that father is genuinely a calm and composed person.

12. Good Father

12.1. He loves his son and treats him well. pg 47: When he saw Bruno, he broke into a wide smile. Father does not usually smile so widely like that to people. Instead he will just laugh either at the person or with the person. in other words, he is quite strict and does not do smiling often as one may think fathers do.

12.2. " 'Of course,' said Gretel, who always spoke of Father as if he could never do any wrong and never got angry and always came in to kiss her goodnight before she went to sleep...... Bruno would have admitted Father did for him too. " This shows that father is a family man and he loves his children very much.

13. Father was well brought up and taught. "You got here safely then?", "Let's have none of that." These are some of the ways Father communicated with Bruno. His language use and appropriate way of speaking shows that he was well taught in his younger days to speak good English and use the right vocab. The way he speaks also reflects on who he learnt to speak from and it shows that that person too was very good at speaking and Father learnt his excellent ways of speaking good and proper English.

14. CHAP 3: " 'Of course,' said Gretel, who always spoke of Father as if he could never do any wrong and never got angry and always came in to kiss her goodnight before she went to sleep...... Bruno would have admitted Father did for him too. " This shows that father is a family man and he loves his children very much.

And i have listened to what you have to say , even though your youth and inexperienced force you to phrase things in an insolent manner.'' Father sighed and was irritated when he heard from Bruno that he did not like the new house and wanted to move back. He was taken aback and wanted Bruno to accept the fact that they will be living here for the forseeable future and wanted to hear nothing more.

17. Father is realistic. From pg 50 " 'You need to realise that you are at home,' he said instead, disappointing Bruno. 'This is it for the foreseeable future.' " He is very straightforward and tells the cold harsh truth to Bruno and probably does not really care how Bruno feels. he must be thinking: This is the truth, and he must know it.

By telling Bruno that he was proud of him is also good in the upbringing of Bruno as through this, Bruno will learn that helping out in the house is good. This also demonstrates that Father is a clever and easily satisfied man.
