1.1. Cyclothymia causes emotional ups and downs not unlike bipolar disorder but less severe, though you run the risk of it developing into bipolar disorder. Psychotherapy and some medications are included in treatment for this.

4.1.1. From 0.4% to 1% of the U.S. population has cyclothymia. Equal # of men and women are affected and symptoms begin during childhood. Genetics has a role in causing cyclothymia but other causing factors aren’t determined. Treatment. Besides psychotherapy medicines like lithium or lamotrigine, Prozac, Paxil, or Zoloft are all medications that have a chance of lessening the symptoms. They also have a chance to worsen the symptoms in a VERY small amount of people.
