Islamic Contributions to Astronomy

1. Muslims saw from the Qur'an the importance of the stars, and began to name many of the stars.
1.1. Many of stars' names are in Arabic
2. Many Islamic philosophies are what allowed for the continued study of astronomy within the muslim world.
2.1. Tawhid, which refers to the unity of God and respect for empirical data, allowed for the expansion of ideas such as the scientific method and closer lunar and solar observation.
3. Astronomy begins among Arabs (Abbasid Caliphate - 7th Century)
3.1. Islam, although originally based on Aristotle's ideas about the heavens, branched off and used math and other sciences to study the stars
4. Muslims went by the lunar calendar.
4.1. Used tools like the Astrolabe to keep track of the days
