The study of educational psychology synthesizes the art, science and values of teaching by providing academic information about learner cognitive processes in an effort to create an awareness of these processes and develop solutions for different learners. Learning theories, Behaviorism, Social Constructivism, Personal Constructivism, Social Cognitive and Cognitive all attempt to create solutions for learners as they develop academically, socially, cognitively and behaviorally.

These learning theories offer different approaches for student success, yet several are identified with faulty reasonings that often inhibit learner success.

Behaviorism is an approach that is best modeled within work environments. Within behaviorism, students are treated like employees and the goal of learning is to become like the teacher. Teachers act as the boss\' and identify only with students who most accurately model their teacher. Behaviorists unintentionally inhibit student learning as students are required to pursue the interests of the leader instead of personal interests. This often stifles an individual\'s growth and development.

Personal Constructivism is a theory of development that promotes student learning. Within learning, students become the explorers and actively seek new information that is relevant to their interests. Although this creates a solution for the fault within behavioral theory, Personal Constructivism is seldom successful because teachers are do not take an active approach in guiding students toward success. Students are not as productive within the personal constructivist theory and do not develop the skills needed to achieve success within the real world.

Social Constructivism seeks to allow individuals to participate in projects that are societal based. Based on an individual\'s interests, they can either become a central or legitimate participant within the project. Teachers guide participants in the appropriate direction, yet learners are also like explorers, seeking solutions to societal needs. As society is continuously changing, this learning theory becomes inconsistent for school curriculums.

Social Cognitive theory seeks another solution to the needs of the learner as social cognitive theory promotes education within areas of student interest. The teacher encourages the student to pursue personal interests and directs learners toward opportunities for academic learning. The social cognitive approach encourages individuals to flourish into productive members of society yet individuals are often not well rounded.

The Cognitive Theory supports aspects of each theory as personal and societal values instilled through behaviorism are reinforced and instilled within learners. Learners are supported and encouraged as they pursue career paths that interest them. The importance of answering societal needs are practiced through critical thinking skills within the classroom and learners are viewed as individuals with unique interests, needs and complex cognitive processes.
