Behaviors of Waves
by Alyssa Guthrie
1. Interference
1.1. Occurs when two or more waves overlap and combine together
1.2. Waves get in the way of one another.
1.3. Swimming in the ocean.
2. Destructive Interference
2.1. Two or more waves combine to produce a wave with a smaller displacement
2.2. Waves come together and form one wave.
2.3. Bad time while pushing swing.
3. Constructive Interference
3.1. Two or more waves combine to produce a wave with a larger displacement.
3.2. One wave is bigger. One wave is bigger. The larger one combines with the small wave and becomes a bigger wave.
3.3. Pushing child on a swing.
4. Reflection
4.1. occurs when a wave bounces off a surface that it cannot pass through
4.2. Reflection doesn't change change the speed or frequency but can create an illusion of appearance
4.3. A cup of water with a pencil in it
5. Refraction
5.1. Bending of a wave as it enters a new medium at an angle.
5.2. The wave enters a new medium at an angle. The new medium has a different speed.
5.3. Lawn mower moving from grass to gravel.
6. Diffraction
6.1. Bending a wave as it moves around an obstical.
6.2. Waves squish to fit through obsitcals.
6.3. Water waves moving towards a wooden square that is blocking it.
