Mummification & Burial Tombs

The Egyptians believed that if the pharaoh's body could be mummified after death the pharaoh would live forever

How did mummification come about?

Mummification came about in 3100 BC, as a solution to their decaying problem. Mummification was perfect because it preserved the body so that the dead people could move on to the afterlife, with their body in reasonably good condition.

Egypt has hot and dry weather because so much of it is a desert. The ancient Egyptians had to have clothing that was not too hot and allowed free flowing air to cool their bodies. Most of the clothes they wore were made of linen that was made from the flax plant. The type and quality of linen depended upon how rich the person was.

There weren’t that many trees for building houses. The Egyptians had to use whatever they had around and that included mud and reeds. Since the Nile River floods lasted three months out of the year, their housing construction often suffered.

They used scripts and scribes to write on temples and tomb walls.
