Differentiated Instruction
by Kegan Gibson
1. Group 1
1.1. The 5 students who answered most, including the most difficult, of the pre-assessment questions correctly.
1.2. Differentiation Strategy: Students were given a brief introduction to the next topic for tomorrow. Students are asked to research the topic and begin teaching the next day. They should report their findings as a group in class the next day.
1.3. Assessments: Students will be graded on their report given to the class at the start of the period. This is a type of formal assessment I can use to see if students learned.
2. Group 3
2.1. The 5 students who appear to have limited knowledge about the topic.
2.2. Differentiated Instruction: These students need review of previous concepts that they should have mastered. Students in group 2 are designing problems that should help group 3 review these concepts.
2.3. Assessments: Students will be assessed on their ability to solve problems for their correctness on tests given by group 2.
3. Group 2
3.1. The 12 students who have some knowledge about the topic as shown in their score, but need to develop higher order thinking skills.
3.2. Differentiation Strategy: These students need to develop higher order thinking skills. To help develop these skills this group will design problems from group 3 that deal with review of trigonometric functions.
3.3. Assessments: Students will be assessed by their ability to show that they understand the deep meaning of the problems that they write. Students should be able to demonstrate a complete understanding of the problems written.
